Hello again! It has been awhile since my last post, but I have been sick the last couple of days. I took Nyquil the last few nights, and I tried to sleep it off. I haven’t had an appetite either, but I made up for it today. I ended my last blog feeling distressed, but I am better now. This experience hasn’t been the easiest, and I may have underestimated how hard it would be. It is definitely putting strain on my personal relationships, which makes it that much harder. Although I feel very homesick, I am trying to take advantage of this opportunity. For all I know, this may be the only chance I have to explore China. Not too many people are granted an opportunity such as this, so I will appreciate it for what it’s worth.
I will try to blog at least once a week. I am busy during the week with classes and labs, and we plan to do something every weekend. I will have a post that will update you on my week and weekend. I have a lot of pictures from this past week. It will take forever to upload to Weebly, so I found a faster way: Picasa. I will upload my pictures there and share the link with you. I will try to keep them in sync. I wanted to have everything in one place for you to view, but my internet connection does not work well with Weebly. I hope this is not a problem for you all. If for some reason you cannot find my pics on Picasa, please let me know. Click the button below, and it will take you to Picasa.

Last week, we spent a lot of time in class, lab, and helping students. More students are starting to open up and ask questions. Jack has been our hang man, and he is really trying to learn English. The best way for him to learn is by hanging out with us, so I commend him. He has to be learning a new word every day. He keeps his dictionary close to him to translate what he doesn’t understand. It’s funny because we have all of his famous quotes down: “Ohhhh, I dunno (while scratching his head).” “Umm, can you spell it?” “Umm, let me see (while scratching his chin).” We have to explain a lot to him, but he catches on really fast. I like working with him, and I wish all of the students had his curiosity. I told Jack I was going to start calling him ‘Curious George.’ He just laughed. He will come into our lab (not his section), and start touching everything. It’s like a kid in a candy store. He certainly has a mind of an engineer. He gets a little frustrated when he doesn’t understand our jokes, but sometimes it not worth explaining. The humor would be lost in translation, so I think he starts to zone us out at a certain point. Other than that, he has been great to us.
On Saturday, we went to sightsee in Jiefangbei (downtown Chongqing). It reminded me up Times Square in NYC. They had Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, etc. It was a very upscale shopping center. The best part: they had western toilets in their bathroom. Yep! I was excited about the bathrooms. It's crazy to me how something that is a normality back at home is a luxury in another country. Who would have ever thunk it? (Yes, I purposely said ‘thunk’!)
Sunday, we went to visit an ancient fishing city and old battleground. The natives, also our tour guides, were experiencing the city for their first time as well. Hence, they had no idea about the history, but I have plenty of pictures. Sightseeing at this place was okay, but it was raining and cold. We had to watch our step the entire time because it was so slippery. Someone fell and it was not a pretty sight. Note: I did not put captions on the pictures on purpose. I included the pictures with descriptions, but most of it was rock carvings and it may be hard to read. I didn't read much of it because of the weat
I have more stories to tell, but it is getting late. I have been working on this blog most of the day and last night. It took me a long time to figure out a way to post the pictures, but I wanted to share most of them. My next blog will be really long because I have to get you all caught up. Until then, peace!
