Weekend of 3/29-3/30 – Chengdu:
On Saturday morning, we headed to Chengdu, home of the Pandas, and located in the Sichuan Province. This was a great weekend. I went with Alyssa, Brandon, Lotus and Dr. Cheng. Once we arrived in Chengdu, Dr. Cheng decided to go on his own. He wanted to visit this Buddha outside of Chengdu, and we wanted to stay in the city. After the two-hour train ride, we were hungry. So, Lotus treated us to food from her hometown. They only had noodles for vegetarian options, but they tasted okay. From there, we headed to check in to our hostel. I have never stayed in a hostel before, but it was a good experience. The four of us stayed in a room with six beds. We had another roommate show up; he was a backpacker from Australia. It was scary to sleep in a room with a stranger, but we only live once. The room was fairly cheap, and it allowed for the four of us to stay together.
After checking in, we headed to downtown Chengdu to walk around. After walking around, we went to visit an Old Alley. It had a lot of carvings and different kinds of art. It was interesting. We didn’t stay too long. Then, we went to have lunch with Lotus’ cousin, who lives in Chengdu. It was a very nice dinner and her cousin treated us. They were so nice. After dinner, they took us to Jinli. It was another type of alley with a lot of Chinese red lights. It was beautiful at night with the lights. We walked around the alley and into the little shops. I was able to find a few souvenirs, and I took some nice pictures. After the long day, we headed back to the hostel to rest for the next day.
On Sunday, we went to the Panda Research Park. I absolutely enjoyed myself. I took over a hundred pictures at the park alone. We were able to see panda cubs and red pandas. From there, we headed to the train station back to Chongqing.
